History of the movement or cultural group

Video game culture is a form of new media culture that has been influenced by video games.
The origin of video games lies in early cathode ray tube-based missile defence systems in the late 1940s. These programs were later adapted into other simple games during the 1950s. In
1960s, more computer games were developed and gradually increasing in sophistication and complexity. Within the culture you get types of gamers;

It spans so many generations of Atari love and gives us a massive catalogue of inspirational art for our new collections.”

Related Media

With the rapid convergence of all media types into a digital form, video games are also beginning to affect, and be affected by traditional media forms.
In the history, the Television engineer Ralph Baer, who conceived the idea of an interactive television while building a television set from scratch created the first video game. Video games are now also being exploited by pay-TV companies which allow you to simply attach your computer or console to the television cable system and you can simply download the latest game.

What you think it might be a reaction to (Politics, Hegemony)

Gaming in general can attract a negative point of view from a vast majority of people. Politics often shines a light on heavy usage results to antisocial players, however games are more social then ever with the ability to go online and chat with either friends or random people from around the world, your can become more social to new people than your very own real friends.

  1. Well done Chris.

    Try to summarise the history of the movement by reflecting on it - although computer games have existed for a long time, how about the cultural group?

    How are 'gamers' unusual from other youth cultures in terms of music and/or fashion? What is their primary media?
